English + Cycling

Innovative English language school, International House Manchester, are venturing into the world of cycling as they launch an English language + Cycling academy programme for cyclists aged from 16 years.

The course will see aspirational young cyclists from around the world combine English language classes with professional cycling coaching. All cycling coaching will be provided by Manchester Cycling Academy. Students will attend English classes at IH Manchester’s city centre school in the mornings taking their cycling coaching in the afternoon. Cycling sessions will take place at the Velodrome or on the BMX track at the National Cycling Centre. Road rides are also planned in the surrounding countryside.

A group of cyclists rides closely together on a cobblestone road bordered by trees and greenery.

Manchester Cycling Academy is a growing sports education provider which delivers high quality cycling provision across the North West of England. They also run a successful BTEC in Soort education programme. They also have a partnership with British Cycling to run the Sport England funded Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE).

IH Manchester already offers an English language + football programme, under its “IHM Football Academy” banner. The cycling academy will be offered at two levels, elite and development, with the former being directed at those young cyclists with professional aspirations.

Peter Hayes, Director of IH Manchester, commented:

“We are really excited to be working with Manchester Cycling Academy and look forward to developing a long and prosperous relationship. We are looking forward to welcoming young cyclists from around the world to Manchester, the UK home of elite cycling” Hayes added.

Stefan Hopewell, Director of Manchester Cycling Academy said: “We are very excited at the prospect of working with International House Manchester.”

“Manchester Cycling Academy offers a wonderful experience. Much of the activity will be based at the world class and newly renovated National Cycling Centre and on the same routes that Olympic medalists use every day. The young people who attend will be able to emulate the world’s best.”

“Our expert coaches are used to working with elite young riders and will encourage the riders to be the best that they can be.”

The course is set to start in spring 2023 and applications are being accepted now.
