IELTS has just launched the brand new “IELTS Indicator”. This is an online exam for students who cannot take the IELTS test at an IELTS test centre due to the current  Coronavirus restrictions.

Cambridge Assessment English are the test provider and they say that the new “IELTS Indicator” will assess students’ levels of English in speaking, listening, reading & writing. The test will be timed and online and will be able to be taken from a student’s home. This will be wonderful news for those students currently preparing for the IELTS exam, in order to enter university in the Autumn of 2020. The new “IELTS Indicator” will certainly help students and educators during these currently challenging times.

The speaking test will be conducted by an official IELTS’ examiner, using a video call.

The idea is that this new test can now allow students to continue with their study plans, despite the restrictions being imposed.

IELTS Indicator is not intended to replace IELTS, but schools, colleges and universities are able to use its results to help assess applications during the crisis.

It will be possible to take the IELTS Indicator tests once a week at scheduled times. The IELTS Indicator test will be made availble in locations where it is not possible now to face to face test centres. Bookings will be open from April 22.
