Meet our team of dedicated staff!
The School is owned by the directors; Peter Hayes, Michael Brennan, Katie Hayes and John Glew-O’Leary. Peter is a law graduate from the University of Westminster and worked as the Manager of the Business Centre at inlingua Cheltenham for seven and a half years from May 1999 until he left in November 2006.
Peter has been in the English language teaching industry since 1991, starting his English teaching career in Verona, Italy. He then went on to take the RSA University of Cambridge Diploma in EFL with the Bell School in Norwich. In Summer 1996 Peter took his first management job being appointed as Director of Studies at Stafford House School of English in Canterbury. By 1998 Peter was co-running ASPECT Oxford, a large and modern English language school with up 350 students aged between 12 and 25 years.
Michael Brennan (Mick) is one of the four directors. Mick is a UEFA “B’ licensed qualified football coach and has a degree in Sports Science & Management from the University of Central Lancashire, as well as many years experience managing youth sports coaching programs. Mick began his career in the sports industry in 1996 as apprentice coach with the Premiership football team, Blackburn Rovers FC. Mick then went on to become the Senior Community Development Officer at the club, managing an indoor football facility and a team of sports coaches. This makes him well placed to work with our football students and to pass on his experience.
Director, School Registrar
Katie has a degree in French and Italian and completed her CELTA qualification at International House London. She then went on to teach English in Italy and the Czech Republic. When she returned to the UK in 1996 she worked for Halifax bank for several years and then joined the company in 2008. She now looks after the finance, accounts and bookings for IH Manchester.
Director, School Principal
John is from Ireland and graduated in Economics from University College Cork. During his teaching career, John has worked in China where as Director of Studies he managed a large team of English language teachers. John has also worked in Ethiopia as a volunteer when he was younger. John holds the Cambridge DELTA qualification.
Accommodation and Welfare Officer
Julie studied History and Arts at university and has a passion for music. She has worked in a few language schools over the past few years and really enjoys interacting with students from all around the world.
Julie is originally from France (which is where she got her passion for cheese and bread) and has been living in the UK since 2011. In her spare time she loves going on day trips around the country, listening to music and cooking for her friends and family.
Admin Assistant – Reception
Dorota moved to the UK in 2005 and has worked in hospitality, as a para-legal clerk/interpreter for a firm of solicitors and is now a very important part of the IH Manchester team.
As a student Dorota visited the USA twice for work experience and has also travelled to Madrid, Rome, Venice and Florence.
Dorota really enjoys baking in her spare time, as well as working in her garden.
Assistant Director of Studies
Joseph has been with IH Manchester since April 2014 as an EFL teacher. Joseph has a degree in Zoology with Animal Ecology from the University of Wales, Bangor. He loves India after spending 8 months living there as a volunteer when he was 18. Joseph also loves reading, especially English classics.
Tina has been teaching with us for 3 years and previously taught business English and correspondence in Aachen, Germany.
Tina holds a B.A in Art and Art History, which she achieved here in Manchester whilst working for the BBC as an Arts Facilitator. Her creative background inspires her teaching methods and she says:
“IH Manchester is a great place for both students and teachers to develop their skills!”
Nicole has been working in the school since 2012, and previously worked as a Language Lab Assistant for one year at the University of Miami, Florida, USA. She has an International B.A. in English Literature and Sociology, having studied for three years in Ireland, at The National University of Ireland Maynooth. It was whilst here that Nicole successfully completed a study abroad year at The University of Miami. After graduating in 2012, Nicole went on to do a 140 hour TEFL teacher training course followed by the CELTA, at The Dublin School of English. She loves working with students from around the world and Nicole always tries to teach in a creative and friendly way.
Emma is based at International House Manchester’s head office. Her background is in administration as well as being a qualified Teaching Assistant. Emma works closely with our agent partners and is always available to help with any questions or enquiries you may have.
