7 tips for effective language learning

Here we would like to share with you some easy tips for effective language learning!

Just dive in!

If you are considering learning a new language, just give it a go! You’ll probably be surprised, it’s much easier to get started than you think! The time you spend wondering if you can do it, or if you should do it, could be spent getting started with your new language.

Try not to feel nervous or anxious

Everyone who is starting to learn a new language is likely to feel a little nervous. Especially if have decided to learn a language as an adult, it might have been a little while since you were in a learning environment! And it’s natural to feel nervous that you might get something wrong, or not quite right, but remember everyone is in the same situation. Everyone is learning and improving and no one is expecting you to be perfect. In fact making mistakes is how you learn! It is always better to have a go and get something wrong than not have a go at all. IH Manchester teachers are here to make you feel comfortable and support you all the way when learning English.

Combine learning with your daily life

Rather than keeping your language learning just to your time in lessons, try thinking about the language of your daily life as well. How does what you have learned in class apply to your everyday life? Think about the vocabulary that you have learnt. You’d be surprised how much this can help!

Learn about the culture of the country

One of the best things about learning a new language is learning about a different country too! Enjoying learning about the country and its culture will help bring the language to life and make it more fun.

Do it daily

If you can find the time to do a little every day, you will be surprised how quickly you improve. As mentioned earlier, trying to incorporate your learning into daily activities can help. Maybe try watching a movie with subtitles on, listening to a podcast in the language you are learning while you are exercising or doing chores. There is always a way to squeeze in a bit of practice!

Reflect on how well you are doing

With anything in life it is easy to forget how far we have come. We naturally always want to improve and move onto the next step. But it is really important to take some time to appreciate how much you have improved since you started learning a language. Think back to the first days of your language learning. Now think about the new skills you have learned and how much more naturally you can use the language. This will hopefully encourage you on your journey.

Remember it should be fun!

Learning a new language is an amazing and exciting thing to do….and it should be an enjoyable experience! You are learning a new language to be able to communicate and connect with new people, enjoy new cultures and for many other reasons, too. It is a wonderful thing you are doing, so enjoy the journey!
